Rationale:

This Technology in the Classroom Module is one session to be used in conjunction with a digital_storytelling.gif
year-long Professional Development program for teachers who are new to integrating technology tools within their daily classroom instructional delivery. Digital Storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories. As with traditional storytelling, most digital stories focus on a specific topic and contain a particular point of view. However, as the name implies, digital stories usually contain some mixture of computer-based images, text, recorded audio narration, video clips and/or music.

Goals

The purpose of this module is to introduce teachers to Digital Storytelling and to provide them with a introductory set of resources that could be adapted to their content and grade level.

Objectives

  • To provide an introduction to Digital Storytelling.
  • To provide teachers with resources and tools for creating digital stories.
  • To introduce teachers to 21st Century Standards for Online Learners as determined by the AASL and the ISTE NETS-S.
  • To provide a sample lesson and guided practice by creating a digital story.
  • To support future use of technology in the classroom.
